The Endingen Jewish cemetery is located in the town of Endingen in the Swiss canton of Aargau. Until 1750, the Jews of Switzerland were buried on the small (now non-existent) Island ‘Judenäule’ on the Rhine River near Koblenz. Since the island was regularly flooded, the Federal Authorities granted permission to build a new Jewish cemetery in Endingen. The purchase price for the land at the municipal boundary of Lengnau was 340 guilders. Since 1963 the cemetery has been protected by the ‘Denkmalschutz’ (heritage preservation).
The graves are arranged in north-south direction, with women and men buried separately. The last existing graves in the Judenäule were re-interred here in 1954.
