During a visit to the Jewish community in Sarajevo in Bosnia-Herzegovina, Lo Tishkach Executive Director met with community leaders to discuss the current situation of Jewish cemeteries and mass grave sites in Bosnia- Herzegovina.
A meeting also took place with leaders of the National Council of Religious Leaders who have taken major steps in ensuring preservation of these sites.
During the trip, Lo Tishkach also inspected the recent works taking place at the historic Sarajevo Jewish Cemetery where renovation of the entrance and gate area is currently going ahead. The site, in an area of no-man’s land during the Bosnian war in the 1990’s is now a monument of national heritage and regular upkeep of the site is undertaken by municipal authorities in cooperation with the Jewish community.
