Bar-le-Duc Jewish Cemetery Desecrated

At the Jewish cemetery in Bar-le-Duc in northeastern France, nearly a third of the 126 gravestones were desecrated. Police believe that several individual committed the acts of vandalism in which heavy stones were broken and toppled over. An investigation has been launched. Read the original article.
Vandalised Bucharest Jewish Cemetery Restored

The main Jewish cemetery in Bucharest was rededicated after the restoration of 131 gravestones which were broken in acts of vandalism more than two years ago. Memorial Unveiled at Mariyampil Jewish Cemetery

A memorial in honour of the members of the Mariyampil Jewish Community murdered between 1941 and 1944 was unveiled at the site of the local Jewish cemetery. Sponsored by the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress and the Rothschild Foundation, the memorial was created by sculptor V.M. Vilshuk. The municipality participated in the project by providing practical support and maintaining the area around the memorial. The project was initiated by the Ukrainian ‘Committee of Revival’ and found the support of Ivano-Frankivsk rabbi Moyshe Leyb Kolesnik.
New Website lists Graves of Jewish Commonwealth Soldiers

A Borehamwood teenager set up a website dedicated to Jewish soldiers who died serving with Commonwealth forces. The site went on-line following months of research with the Association of Jewish Ex-Servicemen and Women and the Commonwealth War Graves Commission and provides a function to search for Jewish casualties by region or cemetery. Austrian Parliament passes Bill to Restore Jewish Cemeteries

The Austrian parliament passed a bill to provide 20 million euros in federal funds over the next 20 years to restore the country’s Jewish cemeteries. The Austrian Jewish community will provide the same amount, payable as 1 million euros per year into a special fund. As part of this initiative, local municipalities are asked to maintain the cemeteries for another 20 years after they have been restored. There are 61 Jewish cemeteries in Austria.

Pogrom memorial stolen from Cologne Jewish Cemetery

A 750-kilogram ‘Kristallnacht’ memorial was stolen from a Jewish cemetery in Cologne. The Jewish community has called upon residents to retrieve the monument. Police have launched and investigation.
Showing stars of David, Torah scrolls and a menorah, the monument memorialises objects saved from the November 10, 1938 pogroms.

Riga Jewish Cemetery Desecrated
