In addition to the nation-wide student seminars that Lo Tishkach rolled out in Ukraine earlier this year (see previous article), a teacher seminar took place in Kiev February 7-9, training Ukrainian primary and high school instructors to run Jewish heritage and Holocaust related projects inside and outside the classroom.

Consisting of a mix of lectures, workshops and applied training, the seminar was also an occasion for teachers to discuss their experiences and to present material used locally to teach Jewish history. The event also included two excursions to Jewish sites in Kiev and to the Mark Epstein exhibition at the Ukraine National Museum.

A limited number of teachers had already participated in a previous Lo Tishkach seminar and we were glad to see that they had launched local initiatives, including the creation of school exhibitions about local Jewish history and heritage issues in schools in Kharkiv, Kryvyi Rih, Lviv and Poltava. The presence of a few participants from the previous seminar had a very positive effect on the seminar dynamics and showed to the majority of new participants tangible results achieved by methods and ideas discussed at the seminar.

Forty-eight teachers, coming from across Ukraine, attended the event.
