Rabbi Pinchas Goldschmidt, Chief Rabbi of Moscow and Executive President of the Conference of European Rabbis led a delegation of leading European Rabbis in productive talks with the President of the European Commission Jose Manuel Barroso.
Among the delegation were Mr Boris Mintz, the Chairman of the Board of Patrons of the CER, Chief Rabbi Guggenheim of France, Chief Rabbi Eisenberg of Austria, Chief Rabbi Guigui of Brussels, Chief Rabbi Schudrich of Poland, and the CER’s Executive Director Rabbi Moche Lewin.
The President of the European Commission was most interested in the issue of the mapping, maintenance and legal protection of cemeteries as undertaken by the Lo-Tishkach Initiative and agreed that Commissioner Vassiliou Androulla would work closely with the CER and Lo-Tishkach on this issue.
Mrs. Androulla Vassiliou is currently European Commissioner for Education, Culture, Multilingualism and Youth.
