Around two hundred student and youth leaders will take part in the first round of Lo Tishkach educational seminars set to begin in early January 2011. The first seminars will take place in Kyiv (western and central region), Mykolaiv (southern region) and Dnipropetrovsk (eastern region)

The initial seminars – part of a series of three – will give basic historical background information on Ukraine’s Jewish heritage and general information on cemeteries and Holocaust mass grave sites.

Participants, who are from across Ukraine and have been chosen as leaders from schools and youth organisations, will also attend lectures from local and international experts on project management and fundraising as well as mobilising local youth and communities in the preparation of educational, preservation and memorialisation projects.

At subsequent seminars set for the spring months, the participants will present their project plans for discussion and evaluation before taking their projects into the field and reporting and analysing them at a third and final seminar at the end of the summer.

A further series of seminars involves teachers who will impart the lessons of the Holocaust the importance of preserving Jewish heritage.

These series of seminars and the subsequent field projects are made possible through a generous grant from the Genesis Philanthropy Group, now into its third year supporting Lo Tishkach’s education work in the Former Soviet Union.
