The Lo Tishkach Foundation is currently working in co-operation with the Central Archive for Research on the History of Jews in Germany (Zentralarchiv zur Erforschung der Geschichte der Juden in Deutschland) to review the data on Jewish cemeteries in Germany held by both organisations. |
Both Lo Tishkach and the Central Archive maintain databases of German Jewish burial grounds, including those of which no obvious trace remains.
Due to Germany’s federal structure, there is no nation-wide list of the country’s Jewish cemeteries. At the end of the data reviewing process, Lo Tishkach’s Database of European Jewish Burial Grounds will feature the most comprehensive available list of Jewish burial grounds in Germany.
Founded in 1987, the main purpose of the Central Archive is to preserve and study the historically valuable documents entrusted to them by Jewish communities, associations, institutions and individuals – normally as permanent deposits. The institution maintains a complete database of Jewish cemeteries in five German regions.
Established in 2006, the Lo Tishkach Database of European Jewish Burial Grounds now contains over 9,000 listings in some 29 European countries.
