15 April 2010
All current as well as potential future Lo Tishkach project partners from Ukraine, Latvia and Lithuania met at a seminar in Kiev April 14-15. During the seminar, current partners presented their ongoing projects and discussed various issues linked to large-scale educational surveys of Jewish cemeteries and mass graves in Eastern Europe. The seminar was also an opportunity to explore ways to survey all remaining regions of Ukraine by the end of 2011.
After a day of presentations and discussions, the participants visited the Babi Yar mass grave site as well as the Jewish section of the Kurenevka municipal cemetery in Kiev. Kate Malakhova of the Centre for Jewish Education Ukraine, who has been involved in Lo Tishkach projects for two years, led the visits and explained different surveying techniques.
As part of the Lo Tishkach educational programmes, the seminar was made possible thanks to the generous support of the Genesis Philanthropy Group.
