Building on the success of two years of education projects and cemetery and mass grave surveys across Ukraine and the Baltic States, Lo Tishkach is launching a new project cycle aimed at identifying and training young leaders in the field of Jewish heritage.
The project will mobilise and engage hundreds of young people from schools, universities, Jewish studies programmes and Jewish communities from all over Ukraine and neighbouring countries in a year-long series of seminars and hands-on experience. Following the 2008-10 projects, which covered more than 1,000 sites and involved major national Jewish youth organisations, the seminar cycle will raise local awareness further as participants will be asked to run small-scale Jewish heritage projects in their home communities.
During the project cycle, participants will be trained both theoretically and practically in Jewish heritage issues. They will also learn how to formulate, present and seek funding for Jewish heritage projects. After the initial training by leading national and international experts, participants will carry out their own locally-based mini-projects.
In addition to the seminars, participants will exchange their experiences via a specifically-designed social networking site facilitating the emergence of project management skills across the country. By launching this new project cycle, Lo Tishkach is showing its continuous commitment to the protection and preservation of Jewish heritage which it believes requires lasting local involvement.
