A group of 17 volunteers has restored the Jewish Cemetery in Talsi, Latvia. As previously reported, the cemetery was vandalised in October last year, only three months after the group had carried out clean-up and restoration works at the site.
During a ten-day stay, the international group under the guidance of German pastor Klaus-Peter Rex repaired stones that were toppled and/or broken, and built a wooden fence around the burial ground. The volunteers also identified and restored the original entrance to the site, which provides improved access to the graves.
The restoration was initiated by LOT, an association which has been organising cemetery restorations in Latvia for several years. More information about LOT can be found here.
