Location & Demarcation: The cemetery is located in the vicinity of an industrial area and is adjacent to ploughed agricultural fields, which probably impinge upon the cemetery. The Foundation for the Preservation of Jewish Heritage in Poland (FODZ) is currently preparing the renovation and enclosure of the area. Construction works will begin in April 2009. The town of Żuromin is located 170km north-west of Warsaw.
Gravestones, Memorial Markers & Structures: No traces of the cemetery remain – there are no gravestones left at the cemetery. There are no memorials erected at the site.
History of the Jewish Community: In the 19th century, the Jews of Żuromin were engaged in exporting grain and horses to Gdańsk and operated a tannery and a flour mill. In 1921, the 1,902 Jews living in Żuromin constituted 48% of the town’s population. The Bund, Zionists and Agudat Israel were active in the town in the interwar period. The local Jewish population was deported to the Warsaw area in late 1939 and murdered in Treblinka in 1942.
